Beginning Mandarin for Travel
3 Week Course
This course helps individuals and families learn basic Mandarin phrases and vocabulary to navigate everyday interactions while traveling in China and other Mandarin-speaking destinations. Students will learn common greetings, useful travel terms, and practical phrases for communicating in real-world situations.
The program includes three online sessions, meeting once a week for three weeks. The fee covers the complete three-session program, which includes:
Basic Chinese Phrases: Learn practical phrases and vocabulary for common travel situations in China, such as greetings, ordering food, shopping, transportation, and asking for directions.
Chinese Cultural Competence: Learn about Chinese culture, customs, etiquette, and social practices to help you feel more comfortable and respectful while traveling.
Pre-Departure Orientation: Review important information and practical tips to help you prepare for the China trip, including travel expectations, what to bring, and what to expect during the trip.

Here are answers to some of the most common questions about FIA's online Mandarin classes.
What platform do you use, and what do I need to participate?
Mainly ZOOM
How long is each class?
Each class is 50 minutes long.
How many students per class?
One-on-one class, can request group if you would like.
How often do the classes meet?
The program includes three online sessions, meeting once a week for three weeks.
What equipment/technology does a student need?
Participants will need a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a reliable internet connection. A microphone and speakers or headphones are also recommended for participating in the online sessions.
No prior Chinese language experience is required.
Can I participate without living in the United States?
We are an online US based organization. There are no restrictions on regions. Children from all over the world can come as long as the school hours are available.
What is the course price?
$90 for three 50-minute classes.
How does enrollment and payment work?

Is prior Mandarin experience required?
No. Our Beginning Mandarin for Travel course is designed for beginners, so no prior Mandarin experience is required. Whether you're completely new to Chinese or have some previous exposure to the language, you'll learn practical phrases and vocabulary you can use in everyday travel situations.
Are the teachers native speakers?
All of our teachers are native Chinese speakers and are university graduates.
What happens if a student misses a class?
The program fee covers all three sessions as a complete program. There are no refunds or partial refunds for missed classes. Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions so they can get the full benefit of the trip preparation program.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
Cancellations made at least 48 hours before the scheduled time are eligible for a refund, but refunds apply to the entire course, not individual classes. However, I recommend rescheduling whenever possible, as consistency and perseverance are key to achieving fluency!
